I think the people that they are outing as gay or sexual predators or involved in scams should sue for defamation.

Smiddy,
Yes the dubs do hide behind the catholic cone of silence bit...but the difference that someone was telling me the other day is that the catholic priests dont repeat what they hear to any other person, whereas the JW's tell the branch the details of what they hear. So really they can't use that argument in refusing to report crimes.

hiya,.
i'm new to this forum but just wanted to talk to somebody about this.. i was brought up as a jw and left just over a year ago.
i'm now 26 and feel messed up sexually.
I agree. Growing up as a JW does mess you up sexually. I am 35 and am a single mother. I left in 2002/3. After that time I met my ex partner that turned out to be extremely violent and a child came into the situation. He was extremely abusive. Even sexually. I did not enjoy sex with him as it was not satisfying - he was an alcoholic that had impotence. He also made me hate myself physically which is something I still suffer with now 4 years later.
Im sad that I never got to experience sex with another young person in the situation as your first love. Ive not done anything I would like to sexually, which is not a great deal but even making love the whole night - I've never experienced that, nor a weekend away.
The situation for me is that if and then when I get over my feelings about myself that he made me feel, how on earth will I ever be able to get back the experiences that I've missed especially now that I have a child. Not likely.

so i had my two daughters with me this weekend (their jw mom has them the next one) and it was saturday morning around 10am and i said let's have a short "daddy school" on how to do research on the internet.
so they were plopped on each side of me and my laptop and i was inbetween and was showing them how you can type in "jehovah's witnesses" or "watchtower society" and get lots of vids off youtube on these things and that they can always do their own research if they have any questions on the things they hear at the kh when their mother takes them.. so we were watching one and right then there was a knock at the door and it was two teenage jw girls (from a neighboring cong) offering the magazines... very funny!
my oldest got rid of them and they were giggling and laughing about how weird it was that they would show up right then.. the jws are popping up everywhere in my life lately, ie, at the store, at the mall, at the gym, etc.
Well, having just been through the family law system in Australia, the court ordered that my ex was not to get my son to call the other woman 'mum, mother, mummy' or any other term like that. and also ordered that he not speak disparagingly of me to my son.
So the court has powers to support the victimised parent when evidence is given to the court.

Aussie Oz, what should he be careful of?
I can't speak for overseas countries, but in Australia the Family Law system creates equality between both parents calling it 'shared parental responsibility'. In that both parties need to negotiate and agree upon medical, education and religious aspects of the child/rens upbringing. So if both parties dont agree well something will have to be decided in a court of law. My advice would be to go and seek some legal advice. Because here in Australia the Judges DO NOT LIKE it when a parent HATES the other parent and tries to TURN the children against the other parent. There was a case in Western Sydney in the last week where a mother lost custody of her daughter ( the child was sent to live with the father) due to the judge deciding that the mother had 'hatred' for the father and would not foster a close relationship between the father and child. So having said that an ex JW would only have to show the judge the WT literature talking about shunning anyone that leaves or is D'ed and that they deserve to die etc...and how honestly could a judge then make a decision to leave the child with the adversarial parent?
Just sayin

Hi,
i don't agree with the last poster. The children are being brain washed to think a certain way and stunt the development of critical thinking skills.
You are doing the right thing by showing them where they can go to get information. They will then search when they are ready and read as much as they need to at that time.
It will also be important for them to feel that they can talk to their father, bec as they grow they will be hearing that everyone that is not a JW or leaves will be killed. Their father will be able to address this and reassure them that it is rubbish and try to prevent any of the damage the religion and mother will inflict on the children.
Im 35 and what i have suffered is that my thinking skills are stunted. I am a very black and white thinker. I also have absolutely no imagination, and creativity. This I attribute to the religion in the engraining of certain ways of thinking and the deprivation of any fairy tales and imaginatory stories.

i have received correspondence from a jw in ontario canada.
the following is background information regarding the sinclair family and their adult children.
their son, scott left the cult and committed suicide.
The thing about this case is that her defense will be hard pressed getting an expert psychiatrist to lay the blame on the trauma from the cult.
This mother would have had post partum psychosis which would have lead her to do this as she would have lost touch with reality.
A psychiatrist would likely put it all down to a post partum psychosis with a depressive illness.
What is known in mental health is that post partum depression can be preceeded by antenatal depression if left untreated. Post partum depression if left untreated ( treated ineffectively) can lead to post partum psychosis.
However, what is often unstated is that women who suffer antenatal depression and/or post partum depression usually have 'stressors', 'stress' or 'trauma' etc. In other words there are precipitating factors.
And in this poor ladies case is she has suffered 2 traumas 1. her brothers suicide 2. being completely shunned by her mother and family. Without getting the appropriate professional help to treat the reactive depression from these events, has crescendoed her health into a state where she would have had no concept of reality.
It is commonly published that women with antenatal and postnatal depression not only need effective medical treatment, but they need support and care from family including extended family. This poor lady didn't have any.
When she does get well and come out of the psychosis if not already ( these things take time on treatment) she will be devasted about her actions and traumatised and tormented by what she has done.
I feel terribly sad for this poor mum (not to discount those 2 children and their father).

i have been out since 2002. i have absolutely nothing to do with the borg.. in the last week i have been threatened twice by 2 different witlesses.
the first one in an email said: 'you know what the consequences are for leaving the organisation'.. i took absolute offense to this for a few reasons.
firstly, threatening someone is against the law.
Punk: thanks for your replies. Its good to hear what happens to other people, and no you didn't hijack the thread. Post more!
Thanks everyone for your comments..it is really disgusting that they teach that people are not deserving of life but that of death due to imperfection inherited from Adam. The damage that this has on its members and those that eventually manage to escape their clutches is insurmountable. There are so many JW's being treated for depression and so many on leaving need the care of a professional to support them through the trauma.
I work as a nurse and as I use to hear these things at the meeting I never agreed with their teachings because its against everything you're taught to do and uphold in healthcare, i.e everyone is deserving of life (the extents we go to to preserve life and save life), the dignity we accord our patients with (versus the dignity that is stripped off people getting them to confess so called sins, and the inquisitions that occur in JC on abuse/victims), that people have a right to decide for themselves (so patients are empowered to speak out for themselves and their rights are protected and maintained by nursing staff), that patients and family are empowered by educating them with knowledge so that they can make their own informed decision (if it comes to the attention of nursing staff that the patient is being manipulated by family or significant other strategies are employed to get the patient on their own and making their own decision).
As you can see there is a complete contradiction of the life I lived..One thing at work and another in the borg. I use to try to twist the teachings of the borg to make them more palatable and acceptable. I would imagine this would be common amongst R&F.
